THE ROLES

Currimundi United is built by its people. Our coaches and managers are volunteers who show up every single week because they care — about the kids in their team, the families on the sideline, and the community we’re all part of.

Coaches and managers work side by side. They share the load, back each other up, and create an environment where every player feels valued and every family feels welcome. The best teams at CUFC aren’t just built on football — they’re built on trust, respect, and a genuine love of the game.

Responsibilities & EXPECTATIONS

Both roles carry specific responsibilities, but the most important thing is simple — work together and put the players first.

THE COACH

As a CUFC coach, your job is to develop the whole player. Their skills, their confidence, their love of the game. Here’s what that looks like:

Youth soccer teams in jerseys shaking hands on a field after a game, with coaches present, and soccer goals and trees in the background.

  • Develop football skills, fitness and team spirit across the season — framing success differently for every player in your group and adjusting your approach accordingly.

  • Select players and allocate positions to benefit the team and support individual growth. Increasingly important from U10s upward; from U9s down, focus on helping players find and develop their natural strengths.

  • Work with your manager to give all players equal game time and fair opportunity wherever possible. This can look different for every player and team though we do support the ideal as a goal.

  • If your squad is short, eligible players may be borrowed from other CUFC teams. For U9s and up, keep records — no player can represent another team more than 5 times per season, and borrowed players must not be given preference over your own squad. For details on this rule please get in touch with us.

  • Confirm training times with the Club at the start of the season. Always train within your allocated time and space — be mindful of other teams using the ground and the Club equipment.

  • Wear your Club Coach Polo at all matches.

  • Manage substitutions correctly: from U9s up, subs take place at the halfway line after the referee’s signal. The outgoing player must leave the field before the incoming player enters.

  • In competitive age groups (U11+), select a Best & Fairest at each game. A 3-2-1 points system across the season works well. You’ll also be asked by the referee to nominate the opposition’s standout player — consider delegating this to your manager so you can stay focused on your team.

  • Use your Player of the Match reward to recognise effort, attitude and heart — not just ability. It’s meant to be shared, and to give every player something to work toward.

  • Only coaches, managers and players are permitted in the Technical Area during matches.

THE MANAGER

Managers are the connective tissue of the team — keeping everyone informed, organised and ready to go each week:

  • Keep all parents and players up to date on fixtures, draws and club news via Facebook, Instagram and email. The SCCSA website is your go-to for any updated match information.

  • Work with your coach to ensure equal game time for all players wherever possible.

  • Coordinate borrowed players when needed — keeping records for U9s and up, in line with club rules.

  • Notify families promptly of any fixture changes, match cancellations or updated ground locations.

  • Organise your team’s rostered Field Set-Up and Canteen duties for home games.

  • Wear your Club Manager Polo at all matches.

  • Only coaches, managers and players are permitted in the Technical Area during matches.

  • Keep team sheets up to date online and maintain a record of attendance at training.

GIVE BACK

BECOME A COACH OR MANAGER

At CUFC, we are more than a football club — we are a community built on mateship, respect, effort and teamwork. Every coach and manager who gives their time is investing directly in the next generation of players and in the kind of club we’re all proud to be part of.

WE LOOK AFTER YOU

You don’t need to be a football expert. You just need to care. If you’re ready to share your time, inspire young players and help build something special here in Currimundi, we’d love to hear from you
